Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G Real Review - Not sponsored

It's been a long time i blog but this time what bring me back is the new Samsung S21 Ultra 5G.

I have been a Huawei P30 pro users for 2 years. Everything is fine till google do not allow Huawei to use their Google services on newer devices such as Huawei P40 and above. So i waited patiently for a new Android flagship phone which have a good camera, large storage (512GB) and most important of all is able to use Google services. I know there are alternate way to sideload Google services into newer Huawei phone but i do not want to spend so much money on a flagship and then have to spend so much effort just to make it work.

When Samsung announce S21 Ultra 5G, i told myself, this is it. An android flagship phone which meet all my requirement. I preorder the Samsung S21 Ultra 5G 512GB model.



As you already know it does not come with a charger. But the pre order free gift which is the wireless charger do come with a charger! so problem solve. It also come with a free Galaxy Bud pro and Smart Tag.

And today i finally receive the package and my unboxing journey begin. I am not going to post any unboxing video cause it is a waste of time. There are plenty of video out there. What i want to post today is my initial impression on this phone.


1. The factory default set do not come with any casing nor screen protector. So you may want to order it along with the phone to protect your investment.

2. The battery life sucks, the battery just discharge by itself even though i am not running any application. When i took out the phone to take around 30 photos and 30 minutes of youtube, the battery fell from 100% to 78% !!!

3. The S21 Ultra is an oven! you can fry eggs with it. Not sure why by taking 30 photos the entire phone heat up like crazy!! Samsung need to fix this.!!

4.  The camera quality is questionable. At wide angle and the standard focal length there is no noticeable flaw but when you start to zoom at 10x and above, i notice there are considerable amount of noise and the image is soft. I even compare it with my old Huawei p30 pro and at low light condition 10x zoom the Huawei outperform S21 Ultra. Surprise!!! 

To add salt to injury the default image editing software that comes together with the phone do not have any option to Sharpen the image! Maybe it is hidden somewhere or maybe there is a bug but i just could not find it.



5. Another scam is the Geekbench 5 results. Out of the box with power cable attached i get this crappy results. 619!! Even the older Snapdragon 865 outperform this crappy new crappy CPU from Samsung. Very disappointing. Some even suggested to enable the performance mode under setting>battery> performance mode but this option is missing or not available in S21 Ultra. The closest option is Ënhance processing mode which I have enabled. But it just could not push past 1000 point in the Geekbench 5 benchmark.

Maybe this unit need a major overhaul update from Samsung and hopefully they will fix all these issues. And i am very disappointed with all the major tech reviewer out there. Their job is to tell the truth but obviously there are paid to sing praises instead of telling the truth.

Verdict: Stay away from S21 Ultra at the moment. Wait till there is a major firmware update or the next revise model. And no more crappy Exynos CPU for me. Exynos 2100 is a major dissapoitment.

Zishan Z1 firmware Update and Manual

I found out Zishan has released a new firmware for Z1 player. It supports three new playback modes. download here.. The update is simple. All you need is the ZiShan_Z1_0.2.zip and a TF card. I used a 32GB TF card in FAT32 format. 1) Turn off Z1 player; 2) Extract app.bin from ZiShan_Z1_0.2.zip, and put it in the root directory of the TF card; 3) Insert the TF card into the player; 4) Turn on the Z1 player. The LED light will be on for 3 seconds and then blink ultra-fast for around 5 seconds. (Done). 5) Remove the file app.bin in the card. What's new in v0.2: 1) Add 180 EQ settings.
